Palgwe 3 and competition

So earlier today I was talking to CGN Zoe and she mentioned wanting to learn Palgwe 3 (as did I). So I looked it up on YouTube and I now realize why we don't do Palgwe 3 at Aim High. It's super easy and reminds me of Kumo 1 as far as easy level goes. There are literally 22 moves. I counted. No kicks whatsoever.

So CGN Zoe...if you want I can show it to you, but it's boring.

And while we're on the subject of forms...

For the Pac Jewel, I'm gonna compete in traditional forms. The form I'm gonna go with is Koryo. The hard move is the double side kick. Other than that, I feel confident. Main thing I need to work on is my presentation to the judges and walking on/off the ring.
I'm excited. I can't wait to compete. One of my favorite things about competing at tournaments is it shows me where I stand against other martial artists at my level.

  1. Koryo is pretty tough. That's why it is usually reserved for black belts or above. It was named after a Korean Dynasty that defeated Mongolia. The Korean warrior spirit is reflected in the form. The movements are supposed to represent strength and energy. Good luck but I'm sure you will do fine.

We used to do Palgwe 3 at the old studio. John, Sarah and I actually use P3 in an open form that got cut from the show. It is a great one for white belts and kids because it integrates all the basics. Be happy to see it come back.

  2. jackie have you run koryo by kjn? it's a blackbelt form and that is known by most schools - if you compete in koryo then there's a chance that it could black eye aim high due to the tradition behind it... i'd suggest running that concept by kjn and get a 2nd opinion.

  4. OK. Forget the fact that I want to learn palge 3... NO KICKS? What kind of a form is that?? Anyway I think you should do palge 7 for the Pac. Jewel. In competitions as huge and well known as this one things can get REALLY tight with tradition. REALLY TIGHT. I really would have loved to seen you preform koryo though... I am still open to help you out with your open form though... just yell ( or scream ) ZOE and I'll be there.. ;)
