Soccer - from Sarah

Well, the soccer season is finally overL. Over all, it was a good season. We won most of our games, only losing 2- the 1st game (the one I wasn’t at) and our game on Saturday when we played a classic/club team instead of a recreational team like us. That game was kind of sad. It was a total blow out; it was 4-0 at the end of the half. It was 8-0 when the game finally ended. Luckily, Sunday’s game made up for it. We were playing banks. We won, 7-1. It was a great way to end the season, especially because I scored a goal. Jade (our top defender) cleared the ball out of the back, making it land right in front of my neon cleats. I dribbled as fast as I could. I could hear the other team behind me, right on my heels actually, and right as one player came up next to me, I broke into full sprint. The players around me were hopeless, I was too fast. I hit the mid-field mark and increased my pace. Now, it was just me and the one poor, helpless defender. I easily dodged her, using one of my favorite fakes, and zeroed in on the goal. I didn’t hesitate, I swung my leg with all my strength and the soccer ball went flying into upper corner of the net, so high that the goalie wouldn’t have been able to reach it if she tried. Ya, so that was my amazing memento. Tonight was the end of season party. I got a super cool trophy, making my collection so large that I had to re-arrange all of my metals, ribbons, and trophies just to make it all fit. It’s really a bummer that the season is over but my friend Natalie from my team and I am going to do a camp together. I can’t wait for the next season to start!!! FROM CGN SARAH

Hello

Well hello, hello, hello. I just thought I'd do my blog now then later and talk about... stuff I guess. I'm SUPER pumped up for the backpacking trip and Sarah, Taylor, Lauren and I plan to all sleep together in the same tent. I think we can easily fit in a three person tent considering how... what's the word?... hmm... our appropriate size. (tiny people) :). I also got a chance to be a part of Liberty High schools soccer team! (can you believe it? They're already getting ready for us new High schoolers! :D

12 count was pretty hard, but I guess it just gives me something to work on, ya know?

Well bye guys, I'll see you tomorrow night! :)            KEEP BEING AWESOME!!! :)   Oh and say happy birth-day to Jackie!!!!

sparring

Yesterdays class was fun but really tiring. I got to spar countless black belts and learn new things. Afterwards I was so sweaty as if I had just got rained on. When we did sticks it was ok but I started to feel a pain in my leg. I think it was from sparring but I'm not exactly sure I found a huge bruise and now it hurts to even run.(I run a lot) After class I ate dinner and then went straight to sleep and woke up sore and tired. But a shower and a little strecthing helped that. I can't wait until Wednesday

saturday

on saturday we are doing the numbers, so i dont know how that is going to turn out. Then the saturday after that im going to the backpacking trip so that should be a lot of fun. im thinking of taking one of my airsoft guns, and i do understand that im going to be carrying that but im okay with that.. see you all soon.

Today I am still just a bill......

What a whirlwind week....or weeks. We are deep into subdivision plans for a new housing project for my work and today I took part in something that made me really proud to be a citizen of Washington County. Well it happened today but really it started about 6 weeks ago....

The project we are building is a 5 lot subdivision in Aloha. There will be 5 houses for families, and 5 ADUs (accessory dwelling units) which are basically like mother-in-law flats. These 1000sq ft homes would be for the adults with disabilities who want to live near family but not WITH family anymore and can't quite live without support.

There are a ton of reasons to do this....costs....rising age of caregivers...budget cuts...whatever. but the most compelling reason is the fear that parents have that there will be no one to take care of thier son or daughter after they are gone. This way, families can settle her and establish a relationship with Edwards as a care provider and then we will continue to provide the care after they are gone.

The tricky part. Land use ordinance in our county requires the owner to live in either the house or the ADU. That is just fine for the families, but our clients can't own their homes or they risk losing benefits. Plus whose to say what might happen to a house after a parent dies if there are sibling arguments or something. So Edwards Center wants to own the homes and lease them out on our terms. That way we control who goes in and our plus we control the rent and can keep them affordable for people on low income.

We proposed (or my attorney did) a change in the land use ordinance that would allow an ADU to be owned by a non profit serving people with disablities. Today was the board of county commissioners meeting and I had to go and give testimony on the proposed change. They voted unanimously to adopt the proposed change. Yipppe!

The final ruling will come in the fall but for now I am feeling very happy and proud that we are going to be able to take the next step forward. Amazing process really. And a cool thing to be a part of!

update!

So it's been a while since i've journaled. :(

pac jewel-it was good. not only did i compete this year, but i also got to coach and judge. i'm really glad i had the chance to do that.

conditioning-we've got numbers this week. whoo! excited to see the progress everyone will make.

girl's chat-was amazing. good job devon! it was good having a chance to talk to the girls about what they're dealing with and not having to worry about having only 2 minutes to talk with them.

tonights class-awesome! sparring was bomb. and it was neat doing sticks outside. it def feels different doing stuff like that in shoes, it's a good thing to practice.

that is the nutshell of what's been going on. looking forward to the camping trip and kick a thon and the starlight run and all the other spiffy stuff we've got scheduled for the summer. :)

Class Tonight

Class was a blast tonight! It was tons of fun, as well as challenging, to only spar black belts! It was also great to spar with a lot of the cgns that I haven't been in class with for a while! Although Noah and I will not be at numbers this week, sbn dan and I came up with a great idea for a great workout for us to do! More info soon :)
